Public Legal Education is an activity that seeks to provide people with an opportunity to obtain information about the law and justice system. PLE improves access to justice. PLE gives people information needed help them:

  • Understand the law
  • Know how to deal with legal issues that affect their lives
  • Know how to use the opportunities and the protections offered by the legal system

Nishnawbe Aski Legal Services Corporation Public Legal Education
Our PLE Program serves the 49 First Nations of Nishnawbe Aski Nation. The goal of the PLE Program is to:

  • Inform and educate Members of NAN about the law and Euro‐Canadian justice system
  • Inform and educate Members of NAN about rights and obligations within this legal system.\

PLE Objectives

  • Familiarize community members of NAN with the Law & Justice system
  • Keep the community members of NAN informed of new developments & changes in law and policy
  • Engage in Preventive Law by delivering PLE Activities
  • Provide Legal information in plain language and in a format that is easy‐to‐understand
  • Ensure community members of NAN are aware of the Programs and Services officered by NALSC

Delivery of PLE

Our PLE Program is designed to promote a better understanding of the Law and Legal System. PLE is delivered in a manner sensitive to, and tailored to the needs of NAN communities. PLE can be delivered by:
